Blood Sugar Levels

What is blood sugar?

Blood sugar is a simple sugar in our bloodstream. It is then processed into energy for living cells. Cellular respiration is the process of converting sugar into energy.  Glucose is another word for blood sugar.

What is glucose made of?

Glucose chemical composition is C6H12O6. The liver builds it  by converting the food we eat into glucose. This process is necessary for our bodies to function properly. Plants and animals require blood sugar to survive.

Why is it important to check blood sugar is normal?…

Any malfunction in the process of converting glucose into energy results in a series of health problems.

Blood Sugar Levels

Glucose levels outside the normal range for long periods of time can make us sick.

The most common illness associated with blood sugar is diabetes.

A person without diabetes may experience symptoms when glucose is not at normal levels because our bodies do not respond well to unbalanced sugar levels. One example is low glucose levels, which may occur as a result of fasting 8 hours or more has several side effects.

On that note, low glucose or hypoglycemia can also be caused by too much alcohol, excessive exercise, medication, bad diet and medical conditions not strictly related to diabetes. We are all exposed to having symptoms when sugar levels are unstable. This can be brought by our own behaviors instead of a particular sickness.

(MMOL/L stands for milimole per liter, which is a unit of measurement used for some medical testings.)

What problems are caused by blood sugar?

Low blood sugar symptoms are the following:

  • Nervousness, weakness , nausea, dizziness, headache, blurred vision, anxiety, weakness and sweating.
  • Those who have diabetes can suffer from hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. It can be caused by medication, diet or exercise.
  • More severe symptoms can affect your mind, even further with…
  • Confusion, irritability
  • Slurred speech
  • Motor coordination
  • Inability to concentrate
  • If untreated, it can lead to seizures, stroke and even death

The human body does not respond well to the opposite of low blood glucose, which is …

…high blood sugar in our bloodstream. This also results in health complications with a variety of symptoms. High blood sugar is not exclusive to diabetics. Non-diabetic individuals may have short-term high glucose levels in their blood, this is one of the symptoms of pre-diabetes. Long-term spikes in blood sugar eventually can become diabetes when the body no longer regulates glucose efficiently.

General signs of having hyperglycemia or high blood glucose are:

  1. Weight loss without trying
  2. Increased thirst
  3. Trouble concentrating
  4. Increased frequency of urination
  5. Blurred vision
  6. Abdominal pain
  7. Physical weakness

These are just some of the health complications resulting of blood sugar outside normal levels. I dedicated another article with even more detail information. It is quite unpleasant to suffer symptoms of diabetes or any other health issues from blood sugar.

After some research, I found a group of people, who in my opinion can offer great insight and hope to those who are looking to either prevent a future health issue or those who wish to correct a current blood sugar problem. It is possible to control blood sugar without medicine. You can select the link underneath the picture on the right or click below to learn more.
